BREAKING NEWS: Former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson advises Ruud van Nistelrooy not to start the struggling United player

Ferguson formalized his agreement when he retired in 2013 and has since been a regular attendee at Manchester United matches. Recently, in an effort to cut costs, the club’s minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, informed the 82-year-old Ferguson that his substantial salary, reportedly over £2 million annually, would be discontinued.

It was noted that Ferguson was personally informed of this decision. According to sources, their relationship remains amicable, and there is no conflict between Ferguson and the club, where he continues to serve as a Non-Executive Director.

Ferguson and Ratcliffe recently met for the first time since this decision was made, attending Manchester United’s match against Chelsea together on a Sunday afternoon in Manchester. Observers noted that there appeared to be no signs of tension between them.

Ratcliffe has already implemented several off-field changes at the club, which include restructuring the club’s operational staff and making positions redundant after explaining his plans for a more efficient 250-member team. His goal has been to channel more financial resources toward empowering the team manager and facilitating greater investments in player signings.

Ratcliffe has consistently expressed his admiration for Ferguson in the past. He has witnessed how Manchester United has struggled to regain its former glory under current manager Erik ten Hag, recognizing the challenges faced in trying to replicate the success that Ferguson enjoyed during his tenure.

Earlier in February, Ratcliffe recounted his first interaction with the legendary former manager: “When I joined the club, he was the first person I met, which happened around the second week of January. We had an appointment set from 9 to 10 in the morning at his home, but I didn’t leave until 1 p.m.

He never stopped talking. He’s full of experience, countless stories, and plenty of insights about the club.” This account highlighted Ratcliffe’s respect for Ferguson’s knowledge and contributions, even amid financial decisions like the termination of his salary.

Ratcliffe has also emphasized the need for a sustainable and modern approach to managing Manchester United’s structure and finances. He has made several moves aimed at improving the club’s future, which include streamlining operations and reducing workforce numbers to ensure that more funds are directed into competitive squad development.

Despite the announcement of ending Ferguson’s salary, relations between Ratcliffe and Ferguson appear positive, with no signs of discord. Both men were seen together during the match against Chelsea, showcasing mutual respect and signaling that Ferguson’s non-executive role and influence continue within the club, even as financial adjustments are made.

These changes reflect Ratcliffe’s vision of making Manchester United more efficient and competitive, balancing operational changes with strategic investments. By fostering an environment that still values the expertise of figures like Ferguson, Ratcliffe aims to bridge the club’s storied past with a sustainable future.
