Chelsea could be set for a significant reshuffle in their defense during the January transfer window, with reports suggesting that another first-team player may follow Renato Veiga out of the club. According to recent updates, Axel Disasi is reportedly on the verge of departing, adding to the Blues’ potential defensive changes.

Manager Enzo Maresca has excluded Disasi from Chelsea’s squad for their Premier League clash against Bournemouth, further fueling speculation about the Frenchman’s future. This decision comes after Disasi’s struggles to cement a regular spot in his favored center-back position. Instead, he has frequently been deployed as a right-back, a role that does not align with his preferences.

Despite being named in the starting lineup for Chelsea’s recent FA Cup tie against Morecambe, the match proved challenging for Disasi, with opposition fans targeting him with mockery throughout the game.

Maresca’s choice to leave Disasi out of the Bournemouth squad is believed to be the result of a discussion between the player and the manager. Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has added weight to the rumors, stating that Disasi could be heading for an exit this month.

Romano reported, “Disasi spoke with the manager today, and I’ve been informed he may be left out of Chelsea’s squad tomorrow. His departure during this window looks increasingly likely. Although Juventus has been linked with the player, no formal approach has been made yet.”

Chelsea appears open to parting ways with Disasi, with Maresca’s recent decisions underscoring the club’s intent to rework its defensive lineup. This has raised questions about who could step in to replace the French international.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is reportedly at the top of Chelsea’s wish list as they look to bolster their defensive options. The club is urging Guehi to advocate for a move, potentially facilitating smoother negotiations with Palace. However, Chelsea is also exploring internal solutions, including the possibility of recalling Trevoh Chalobah. Despite this, Palace manager Oliver Glasner has emphasized that Chalobah is happy at the club and not seeking a move.

If Chelsea fails to secure a high-profile defender, emerging talent Josh Acheampong could be handed an opportunity. Acheampong is viewed as a promising option and is expected to feature alongside Levi Colwill in the match against Bournemouth, potentially giving the youngster a chance to stake his claim for a regular role in the first team.

The situation highlights Chelsea’s ongoing efforts to revamp their defensive setup as they navigate a challenging season under Maresca’sleadership.
