Cole Palmer’s participation in Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Wolves on Monday evening is uncertain, according to manager Enzo Maresca. The talented midfielder, who has become a key figure for the Blues, missed Friday’s training session, sparking concerns about his availability. Addressing the media, Maresca said, “Cole is a doubt; he didn’t take part in training today. Levi [Colwill], Romeo [Lavia], and Enzo [Fernandez] also missed the session.”

Maresca highlighted Palmer’s significance to the team, explaining, “We depend on Cole because he’s a vital player for us. Naturally, we want him on the field, but if he’s unable to play, we’ll adjust and find an alternative solution.”

Palmer sustained a knock during Chelsea’s recent 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. The injury occurred when he landed awkwardly in a challenge, necessitating treatment during the match. However, the midfielder managed to complete the game. With Chelsea’s match against Wolves being the final fixture of gameweek 22, Palmer has only the weekend to recover, leaving his participation hanging in the balance.

If Palmer and other key players remain sidelined, Maresca might have to rethink his lineup. Joao Felix could step into Palmer’s role in attack, while Renato Veiga may join Moises Caicedo in midfield if both Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia are ruled out.

Defensive options are also a concern, as Levi Colwill’s potential absence adds to an injury list that already includes Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana. Trevoh Chalobah, who was recalled from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, might be called upon to partner academy graduate Josh Acheampong in the backline.

On a brighter note, Chelsea fans can look forward to seeing more of Reece James, who played a crucial role in securing the draw against Bournemouth after coming off the bench. While Maresca is optimistic about James’ return, he emphasized the need to manage the player’s fitness carefully.

“Reece’s situation requires careful handling,” Maresca explained. “The fact that he played 45 minutes in our last game is a good sign of his progress, but we’re taking a cautious approach to prevent further setbacks. Our priority is to support him fully as he works toward regaining his match fitness.”

Chelsea’s ongoing injury issues continue to pose challenges for Maresca as he seeks to maintain momentum in the Premier League. The uncertainty surrounding Palmer, coupled with the absences of other key players, will test the team’s depth and adaptability ahead of their match at Stamford Bridge.
